The LOFT Academy offers labs and workshops, a Middle School Cohort, one-to-one instruction, holiday camps, and a summer camp. The program uses a project-based, STEAM-inspired curriculum that includes Project Based Learning (PBL), driving questions, and child-navigated educational experiences and hands-on experiments. Adults in the program are referred to as Coaches or Facilitators, and they ask questions, give hints instead of answers, and scaffold projects.

The LOFT Academy uses self-directed learning with “voice and choice,” customized rather than standardized programs, and hands-on programs tailored around the unique gifts of the child. The program uses “Essential Questions” curriculum and provides an environment, facilitators, and materials for students to explore big ideas and develop projects. Students assess themselves and their own progress instead of receiving grades, and The LOFT Academy is not a traditional classroom and does not prepare students for standardized testing. Arts and design are an integral part of how students turn scientific, technological, engineering, and math knowledge into innovation. The LOFT Academy describes its mission as “To inspire students to reach higher by creating an atmosphere of curiosity, self-discovery and big ideas.” The program has been building community and connecting families since 2016.
