Kovar's Martial Arts has been transforming lives through martial arts instruction since 1978, when Hanshi Dave Kovar opened his first martial arts school. The program blends various martial arts styles and emphasizes self-defense, health, fitness, and life skills in a friendly, safe, positive environment. The school uses a Student Creed and teaches the Principles of Black Belt, including Modesty, Perseverance, Courtesy, Courage, Integrity, and Indomitable Spirit. Programs are offered for kids, teens, and adults, with kids martial arts classes specifically for ages 4 to 12 and youth classes divided into Lil' Samurai (ages 4–7) and Juniors (ages 8–12). Kovar's Martial Arts has been voted Sacramento’s Top Martial Arts School for over a decade in the Sacramento A-List and offers a free class trial.

The leadership team includes Hanshi Dave Kovar, who opened his first school in 1978, and his brother Tim, who joined him and brought business practices into the operation, along with Program Director Leigha Aguinaga and Head Instructors Patrick Kelly and Richard Mack. Staff credentials include Program Director Leigha Aguinaga, who has been training and working with Kovar's since 2012; Instructor Jason Duarte, a 5th Degree Black Belt who has been training since 1988 and employed with Kovar's since 2006; Head Instructor Patrick Kelly, a 5th Degree Black Belt who has been training since 1995 and with Kovar's since 2002; Instructor Mason Hunt, a 3rd Degree Black Belt who has been training since 2007 and with Kovar's since 2016; and Head Instructor Richard Mack, a 4th Degree Black Belt who has been training since 2004 and with Kovar's since 2007.

Their program gives local community children a place to learn a variety of different martial arts. Testimonials from parents and students describe attentive and caring staff, instructors who are skilled at teaching kids, and a program that teaches respect, personal development, and positivity. Families report long-term participation, positive experiences with camps and movie nights, and appreciation for how instructors relate to children, including neurodivergent students. Multiple reviews highlight that children enjoy the classes, look forward to attending, and that both kids and adults participate in teen/adult classes together.
