About

Safety Town is a child accident prevention program that introduces safety awareness and prevention to pre-kindergarten age children. The program covers topics such as pedestrian safety, bicycle safety, school bus safety, personal safety, poison prevention, basic fire prevention, car passenger safety, water safety, animal safety, and safe touch. Children take part in craft projects, learn rules of pedestrian and vehicles in the Safety Town, and have the chance to explore a fire truck, a police car, and a school bus.

• Ages: 4–5 years old
• Schedule: June 15–18, Monday through Thursday, 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM
• Price: Registration is $40 to help cover some of the costs associated with the program.

Safety Town is presented by the Elk Grove Police Department for children entering kindergarten and for preschool (4–5 years old) children. It is a nationally certified and accredited program. Enrollment is limited to 40 children per session, and acceptance into the program is on a first come, first served basis. Each child will receive a t-shirt to wear for their graduation ceremony. Payments can be made via credit card at the time of enrollment, and parents or guardians are notified by email about the status of their child's registration within approximately 10 days from receipt of the registration form.

Teenage volunteers ages 13–17 act as mentors for the young scholars. Teen volunteers assist with craft projects, help children learn rules of pedestrian and vehicles in the Safety Town, and ensure they get to classes on time. Community service hours are signed off for the teen volunteers, and a limited number of teen volunteers are accepted on a first come, first serve basis.
