About

Creative Youth Development is a program of Mosaic Theatricals that focuses on theatre education for young people. Students in Camp ¡Exprésate! programs take part in high-quality theatre education that includes building confidence, collaboration, and a sense of belonging. Apprentices in the Dorris Staples Theatrical Conservatory work alongside seasoned professionals and receive hands-on training that supports real careers in the arts.

• Ages: 5–18 years old

Creative Youth Development is one of three core pillars of Mosaic Theatricals. Mosaic Theatricals creates inventive programs for young audiences and interactive events outside traditional theatre spaces, and its productions engage, challenge, and strengthen the cultural fabric of the region. The organization’s mission states that Mosaic Theatricals celebrates the human connection through theatre and education by sharing stories that illuminate the individual experience and cultivate a collective voice. Mosaic Theatricals is led by Executive Director Julianna Crespo and Interim Artistic Director Tom Abruzzo, with board leadership and support from Peter Hester, Sr. (Chair of the Board), Dave Adams (Treasurer), Pamila Whitney (Secretary), Robert Dudley (Member), Hayley Janecek (Member), and Marcelle Rossman (Member). Additional team members include Marketing & Community Relations Specialist Mariana Perezchica, Marketing Consultant Lesley Russe, Operations Manager Valeria Vazquez, Coastal Nonprofit Consulting as Philanthropy Consultants, and Sr. Philanthropy Apprentice Brenda Vazquez. Mosaic Theatricals acknowledges that the spaces where they perform and work stand on the unceded lands of the Kumeyaay/Kumiais and Payómkawichum (Luiseño) Nations and expresses gratitude for their stewardship of the land, and it points families to the Kumeyaay Diegueño Land Conservancy as a collective resource that works with tribal leadership to protect sacred sites and preserve cultural traditions.
