About

New Star Children’s Theatre focuses on musical theatre, with children taking part in acting, singing, and dancing. Every New Star production is an original musical written and composed in-house, and the majority of plays and songs are New Star originals written by their own staff, including several plays written by an alum. First-timers and veterans rehearse side by side, and some shows have been known to include adult performers.

• Ages: 5–17 years old
• Schedule: Key dates include a first rehearsal on 5/26/26 from 5:30PM–8:30PM, no rehearsals on 7/21/26 and 7/23/26, tickets going on sale on 9/1/26 at 5:30PM, dress rehearsals on 9/11/26 from 5:00PM–10:00PM and 9/12/26 from 12:00PM–6:00PM, and show days on 9/18/26 at 6:30PM and 9/19/26 at 1:00PM with a possible third show at 6:30PM TBD.

New Star Children’s Theatre states that every child who registers and auditions gets a role with lines, a place in musical numbers, and moments to shine, with no call backs, no cuts, and no chorus roles. All children who audition for full scale shows or day camp productions are given a role with lines, solos, and dancing, and roles are written and sized for every age group, with younger kids getting age-appropriate parts with full stage time. The program notes that 5,000+ kids have performed on their stage and not one has been turned away, that no experience is necessary to join, and that they try to accommodate various needs so everyone can enjoy theatre. Cast members are welcomed like family and are encouraged to support one another, and some older cast members get involved with assistant positions like directing, choreography, or vocals, learning about behind-the-scenes aspects including stage management and tech. They always encourage family participation in their productions, and some shows have been known to include adult performers.

New Star Children’s Theatre states that its promise that every child is cast has been in place since 1978. The organization describes itself as a 501(c)(3) non-profit and states that its mission is to introduce children to the cultural and personal benefits of musical theatre in adherence to the purposes set forth within Internal Revenue Code section 501(c)(3). New Star Children’s Theatre will partner with charter schools to provide an approved elective course as part of their education curriculum and will offer after school programs in some local public schools.

One parent testimonial reports that a daughter who had previously received only a few lines at other theater companies has, at New Star, consistently been given meaningful roles, lines, and solos, and that even students in their first production are encouraged, included, and given meaningful moments on stage. The same parent describes the environment as supportive, uplifting, and positive, with kids cheering each other on and celebrating one another’s successes, and says that New Star is more than a theater company and is a place where children grow, belong, and thrive.
