About
Flockworks Creative Art Programs offers creative, hands-on art activities for children and teens. The program includes art in schools, art out in the community, monthly art exhibits, workshops, and collaborative ventures with writers, dancers, and others.
• Ages: 5–18 years old
Since 2006, Flockworks has widened access and participation in community arts. Flockworks is a non-profit organization whose mission is to grow community resilience through creative art programs and cultural enrichment. The organization channels resources, talent, and materials to support creative hands-on programs that enrich collaborative learning with students, educators, artists, and community leaders. Flockworks manages afterschool programming full-time for the Fort Bragg Unified School District as of 2023 and serves over 400 children and their families each week at multiple sites in Fort Bragg. The program includes an inclusive all-day summer camp offering creative activities for all abilities in partnership with local organizations, a long-standing arts enrichment program that brings creative activities into schools and outdoors, and free events and activities for artists of all ages. A bilingual school resource artist role supports Latin@ students and their families.
Through its partnership with the Fort Bragg Unified School District, Flockworks brings art into after-school programs. Hands-on art projects bring people together to transform shared spaces, celebrate local culture, and spark creative collaboration across Fort Bragg and the wider Mendocino Coast. Flockworks is an active presence at community celebrations, events, and public gatherings, and acknowledges the Northern Pomo, Coastal Pomo, Cahto, and Yuki Peoples as the original caretakers of these lands.
“The act of creating cultivates courage, insight, patience and hope. It opens a new understanding of the world and can positively shape people and community!” – Janet Self, Artist & Flockworks Founder
