The Circle of Horses is a non-profit, community based, equine-assisted program. Participants take part in an equine-assisted program and lessons. Program participants include adults as well as children, and veterans and senior citizens are welcome.
• Price: The coast facility obtains funding from fees, tax exempt donations, and grants.
The Circle of Horses is led by Barbara E. Auerbach, Director and certified therapeutic riding instructor. The program utilizes two types of instructors—a certified therapeutic riding instructor and a trained equine responsive to the participants. The Circle of Horses is a community based, equine-assisted program offering an alternative modality to individuals with physical or cognitive disabilities, depression, stress and anxiety. Volunteers from the community work to encourage and support participants, and the program creates an environment allowing individuals to interact with these volunteers. The key outcome and success measure stated by the program is enhancement of participants' day-to-day listening and speaking skills through improved concentration, patience, confidence, and self esteem, and other stated benefits include better coordination, body strength, and balance.
