Mendocino Outdoor Science School operates within Mendocino Woodlands, which is run by the nonprofit Mendocino Woodlands Camp Association, a Section 501(c)3 organization. The association’s mission is to ensure a Mendocino Woodlands experience for future generations through group camping, environmental education, and historic preservation. Mendocino Woodlands Camp Association has been a nonprofit corporation since 1949, and the Mendocino Woodlands was built in the 1930s and has continuously served its original purpose since opening in 1938. The program is part of a National Historic Landmark State Park that is the only New Deal-era Recreation Demonstration Area that has continuously served its original purpose, the only one built in California, the only one built in a Redwood forest, and one of only two built west of the Rockies. Mendocino Woodlands is located within traditional Pomo territory near the village site Bu’ldam and partners with Sonoma Clean Power for Evergreen 100 percent renewable energy.
