HT Learning Centers Tutoring and Academic Programs offers daily after school tutoring for all subjects, including math, science, writing, history, reading comprehension, and STEM. The program also offers private one-on-one tutoring for subjects such as math, science, writing, history, Spanish, reading comprehension, GATE testing preparation, and SAT and ACT prep. High school students can take classes for credit in math (algebra, trigonometry, geometry, pre-calculus, statistics, calculus), English 9–12, sciences such as Biology, Chemistry, and Physics, and languages including Spanish, French, Chinese, and Vietnamese, as well as AP courses like AP Calculus, AP US History, AP European History, AP Chemistry, AP Biology, AP Physics, and AP Literature.

• Schedule: Daily after school tutoring with weekday and weekend options; sessions usually run 1.5–2 hours, 2–3 times a week

HT Learning Centers Tutoring and Academic Programs provides instruction and test preparation to K–12th graders, college students, and adults in all academic areas, with a stated purpose of assisting students to achieve their appropriate grade level and challenging advanced students who want to reach their maximum potential. The program offers small classes and instructional groups, with daily after school tutoring and Classes for Credit program class sizes of 2–4 students per instructor, and Classes for Credit also available on a one-to-one basis tailored to students’ needs and time schedule. Tutoring for kindergarten through high school and SAT prep is available, and private one-on-one tutoring is offered 7 days a week by appointment.

The Classes for Credit program meets CA Common Core Standards and is accepted as transferable units by most high schools and colleges, and is described as desirable for students who want more challenging or enriching classes, extra classes, classes not offered at their school or during specific times, to supplement a home schooling program, to graduate from high school early, to earn credit because of lost opportunity due to travel or transferring schools, or to recover credit due to failing grades. Instructors are available to help advanced students in honors programs or preparing for GATE testing, and the program includes specific academic offerings such as English/Writing/Critical Reading, Math Word Problems, Pre-algebra, Algebra 1 and 2, Geometry, Trigonometry, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Precalculus, Calculus, SAT prep, ACT prep, summer school classes, and a Classes for Credit program. HT Learning Centers states that each student is known well by the teachers, that much attention is given to providing the best education for each student as an individual, that there are many opportunities for success to help students develop confidence, and that HT has a unique study program which has proved itself through outstanding results.

HT Learning Centers K–12 Tutoring & SAT Prep reports having a strong and reliable teaching staff, and notes that founder Dr. Kris Nhan Truong graduated with Honors from Harvard College, founded and directed a tutoring program for refugee children while at Harvard, volunteered for one year in a Vietnamese refugee camp in the Philippines teaching English and interviewing for the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, worked as a teacher’s assistant and instructor while attending Johns Hopkins University School for Public Health for her doctoral degree between 1994–1999, and taught statistics to freshmen and epidemiology in the Masters of Public Health program at California State University Fullerton, where she was offered a tenured faculty position in 2006. Dr. Kris Nhan Truong is identified as the founder of the HT Learning Center (HTLC) and founder/director of the BRYE tutoring program in Boston, Massachusetts. In 1987, she founded and directed a tutoring program for refugee children in Boston, and later founded her second learning center, The HT Learning Center, after moving back to Southern California following more than 17 years on the East Coast.

The program’s history and community involvement include Dr. Truong’s work starting in 1987 with refugee children in Boston and her volunteer work in the Philippines for the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees. HT Learning Centers states that HT has a unique study program which has proved itself through outstanding results. The program also shares testimonials from parents and students, including comments from a parent, Ryan Nguyen, who reports that his son described his 8th grade English teacher at HT Learning Center as his best English teacher and that he now has an A in English at school, and from students Nancy Nguyen and Michelle Nguyen, who describe the tutors as caring, talented, and smart, and mention attending both during the school year and summers and participating in the summer school program.
