About
The Reptile Zoo Camps include specific activities such as getting a picture with a constrictor, in-depth hands-on learning, interactive displays and presentations, and feeding the tortoises. Campers also take part in a private 20-minute look at a few extra favorite critters and participate in activities called Food for Thought.
• Ages: 5–12 years old
• Schedule: The Reptile Zoo is open daily from 10:00 AM to 7:00 PM – 7 days a week.
The Reptile Zoo Camps take place in a facility that houses over 100 exotic species of reptiles, amphibians, and arachnids from around the world, with many animals being rescues, many born at The Reptile Zoo, and others from private collections. The facility is wheelchair accessible and open to all guests, and guests can hold animals if they are brave during interactive displays and presentations that offer the chance to learn about rare animals first hand. Through the guidance of handlers, guests learn proper handling techniques and basic facts about each animal, and The Reptile Zoo describes its mission as providing the community with a unique educational entertainment facility focused on these species.
The Reptile Zoo identifies Jay Brewer as founder and Juliette Brewer as overseeing operations, and notes a history that began when Prehistoric Pets opened as Pet Country in 1988, expanded with Jurassic Parties in 1995, and then founded The Reptile Zoo on July 10, 2009, with over 30 years of reptile-related work at Prehistoric Inc. The organization reports that it has hosted over 20,000 educational interactive Jurassic Parties events across Orange and Los Angeles Counties over more than 20 years, and that it has provided employment opportunities to more than 100 individuals and their families. The Reptile Zoo also states that it is a world-class attraction with millions of visitors from around the world and that donations help support animal care, staff, and ongoing educational programs.
