Shivalaya Arts offers kids art classes, summer camp, birthday parties, special events, and paint parties at private and corporate events. The art classes focus on classical drawing, painting, and picture composition, and students work in all major art mediums, including color pencils, crayons, markers, graphite, charcoal, soft pastels, oil pastels, acrylic, water, and oil paints. Exhibitions are conducted featuring each student’s best works.

Shivalaya Arts is a classical style private art school founded in 2008 in Fremont, California, by Poonam Gupta. Its art classes give an opportunity to study fundamentals in classical drawing, painting, and picture composition, with strong emphasis placed on accurate observation and construction of proportion of shape, tonal value, and color. All the art mediums are taught to students step by step, and students must complete each task to the instructor’s satisfaction before progressing to the next, with new and more challenging projects assigned as students acquire each skill; this system is referred to as “academic training with systematic progression.”
After teaching art classes for 10 years in India and raising two kids, Poonam Gupta started Shivalaya Arts in 2008. Having done a lot of vocational courses in drawing and painting in the past, she has taught more than 1,100 students a variety of painting and drawing techniques throughout her career and has managed various paint parties at private and corporate events. Shivalaya Arts has grown in influence around the Bay Area, having students from multiple districts such as Warm Springs, Niles, Ardenwood, and Irvington, and has reached over 1,100 students.
Exhibitions are conducted in Irvington Library and Fremont Main Library featuring each student’s best works. Families have shared that their children look forward to the classes, notice improvement in their art and drawing, and appreciate the focus on basics and step-by-step teaching, including during online classes on Zoom. Multiple parents describe Poonam Gupta as patient, organized, and punctual, and note that classes start on time and that she gives personal attention to each child during class.
