Bay Area Child Care Centers (BACC) is a non-profit organization founded in 1991 by a retired Fremont Unified School District teacher. Its mission is to serve the community by providing meaningful experiences for children and adults that celebrate diversity, creativity, kindness, and wonder. Programs range from preschool and school-age care (TK–5th grade) to summer enrichment, and BACC follows the current Fremont Unified School District (FUSD) calendar and offers holiday care during FUSD scheduled breaks. During the summer months, summer camp is in session for kindergarten–5th grade children for approximately 9–10 weeks, with the program closed one week after the school session ends and one week before the school session begins for professional development.
All Bay Area Child Care Centers locations are fully licensed by the state of California and follow state guidelines for health, safety, and quality childcare, with facilities undergoing regular inspections by state licensing analysts. The educators represent a range of educational backgrounds, including students pursuing early childhood education credentials and professionals with certifications, bachelor’s degrees, and master’s degrees in the field, and every staff member completes background checks, fingerprinting, and maintains CPR and First Aid certification. The program is guided by a Board of Directors made up of educators, parents, and retired professionals, with the founder serving as Executive Director, a Business Manager, and a team of over 30 educators. The centers are intentionally designed to encourage independence with supportive guidance from the teaching team, and each site is shaped by the community it serves.
BACC is a designated community partner with Fremont Unified School District and participates in the Extended Learning Opportunities Program (ELO-P), through which eligible FUSD students may apply for summer camp enrichment programming. The Expanded Learning Opportunities Program funds afterschool and summer programs for TK–5th grade, focusing on academic, social, emotional, and physical development through engaging activities, and aims to complement regular school learning with community involvement. BACC is an active member of the Child Development Training Consortium and First 5 Alameda County and has received multiple First 5 grants over the last 20 years to support program growth. BACC offers eligible students before and after school programs and summer enrichment through ELO-P.
Parent feedback about BACC mentions caring staff, busy classrooms with crafts, games, and outdoor activities, and children who are often not ready to leave because they are engaged in activities. Parents describe children participating in outdoor sports, creating things with blocks and art materials, extra curricular science, group sports, and regular art, science, and dance classes. Several parents note that staff supported their children with homework, helped them make friends, and knew their children’s different personalities.
