About

The Fresno Unified School District Preschool Program focuses on social-emotional health, oral language development, early literacy, early math, and visual arts. The program also includes Dual Language Immersion in Spanish and English or Hmong and English for preschool and Transitional Kindergarten children at designated sites.

• Ages: 3–4 years old
• Schedule: Families can choose from part-day or full-day options.

Fresno Unified School District offers this preschool program for all children who turn three or four years old by December 1st of the school year in which they are enrolling and who live within the Fresno Unified School District. Children who turn three years old after December 1st may enroll on or after their third birthday. All classes are aligned with the California Preschool Learning Foundations, which guide playful, purposeful teaching to support children in gaining knowledge and skills and moving along a pathway of healthy learning and development.

The program offers Dual Language Immersion (DLI) preschool and Transitional Kindergarten at various district sites, including Spanish DLI sites at Birney, Burroughs, Calwa, Centennial, Ewing, Hidalgo, Jackson (TK only), Herrera, Lane, Leavenworth, Roeding, Rowell, Sunset, Wawona, and Winchell, and Hmong DLI sites at Balderas and Vang Pao. FUSD Early Learning and Special Education partner in supporting sites that offer inclusive preschool and Transitional Kindergarten settings, educating children receiving special education supports and services and their non-disabled peers together in the general education classroom. Placement in an inclusive setting is based on a team decision during the child’s Individualized Education Plan (IEP) meeting, and stated benefits of inclusive classrooms include peer models, fostering social and emotional development skills, respect for others, and increasing access to the environment and curriculum.

A parent testimonial about the program states, “My child loves coming to school. Whatever the teacher is teaching, he will tell us about it at home.”
