About

Tai Chi Center of Fresno offers instruction in Traditional Yang Style Tai Chi Chuan, including the Yang Style 37 movement Short Form. Classes focus on Tai Chi Chuan movement, alignment, and internal coordination, with low impact exercise that includes strength building, core and leg strength training, balance improvement, flexibility training, focus training, and stress reduction.

The Tai Chi Center of Fresno is a non-profit educational organization dedicated to the study and instruction of Tai Chi Chuan as a structured discipline. The school follows a consistent curriculum based on the Cheng Man-ching tradition, which comes from a direct lineage from the Yang Family Style and is sustained by teaching and practice. Training is progressive, with students beginning with foundational alignment and movement patterns and then developing continuity, sensitivity, and application through guided practice. Instruction is conducted by senior students who have trained extensively within this lineage and continue their own study through teaching and ongoing classes. The teaching tradition at this center began in Fresno more than fifty years ago.

The organization is led by a board that in 2026 includes Treasurer Jim Furnas, members at large Larisa Estes, Linda Furnas, and Richard Blak, President Francisco E. Alvarez, Assistant Treasurer John Simpson, Vice President Tom Estes, and Secretary Chris Marie Brown. The Tai Chi Center of Fresno describes its teachers and practitioners as a team dedicated to teaching the transformative power of Tai Chi Chuan, and describes its culture as built on the foundations of diversity, equity, and collective support.
