About

The Riding Coach offers horseback riding and riding lessons in a group class format. Each rider is paired with a well-trained lesson horse that is assigned to them, and classes include mixed groups of students with varying skill levels so students can observe more experienced riders. Students must be tall enough to saddle their own horse, with a minimum height of 5 feet, and may not exceed 225 pounds.

• Schedule: Classes run continuously and meet once a week on the day selected at sign-up; students are required to take four classes within a five-week period. Four-lesson groupings focus on building strong riding fundamentals, and single group lessons focus on hands-on learning and foundational riding skills.

The Riding Coach was founded by Gudrun Armanski and Carol Reynolds and has been teaching riders since June 1987. Gudrun Armanski graduated from the Bavarian Sports Academy in Munich and holds a Master’s degree in Physical Education from California State University, Los Angeles; she has taught physical fitness her entire adult life and has taught horseback riding for California State University, Los Angeles (CSULA), the University of Southern California (USC), and Glendale City College, Community Education. Carol Reynolds has been teaching horseback riding since 1985, has shown in dressage to the fourth level and trained to Prix St. George, holds an MFA in Art and a Master’s in Art Education, and has also taught horseback riding for CSULA, USC, and Glendale City College, Community Education. The program was created to bring thoughtful, high-quality riding education to the public, with an emphasis on confidence, communication, and learning to build a real partnership with the horse. The instructors currently teach horseback riding through Glendale City College, Community Education, and the program offers online booking for new and returning riders, along with stated class cancellation policies for heavy rain, thunder and lightning at the barn, and strong Santa Ana winds.
