About
THE SKATESIDE offers skateboarding and roller skating for kids through lessons, after-school programs, and camps. Kids can take private or group skateboard lessons, private or group roller skate lessons, and join after school skateboard or after school roller skate sessions. The program also runs skateboarding and roller skate day camps, as well as spring, summer, fall, and winter camps for both skateboarding and roller skating, and hosts Skateside Fest 2026.
• Ages: 4–15 years old
Founded in 2015, THE SKATESIDE is described as Southern California’s leading youth skateboarding and roller skating program. It was created by husband-and-wife team Lemar and Elena. The program focuses on after-school programs, lessons, and camps for kids across LA and has introduced skating to over 10,000 children through classes, camps, and school programs. Its mission is “More Kids Skating,” with a stated goal of creating safe, welcoming spaces where kids can be themselves, try something new, and build confidence, while teaching life skills like perseverance, self-awareness, and teamwork in a fun, age-appropriate way. Programs are described as safe, inclusive, and developmentally aligned for kids in TK through 10th grade, with an emphasis on building confidence, character, resilience, and lifelong friendships, and each session is described as an opportunity for kids to grow physically, emotionally, and socially in a trusted, welcoming community.
Parent feedback includes comments that THE SKATESIDE is “the coolest and greatest camp ever” with staff who “encourage the kids and let them free at the same time” and “set a wonderful role model for not bullying and lifting up each other no matter what age.” Another parent shared that staff “worked with my very apprehensive son and helped him gain the confidence and the foundational skills to start his skateboarding journey” and described them as “extremely patient and encouraging.” One testimonial describes THE SKATESIDE as “hands-down the best skateboard instruction school in all of Southern California,” calling the program “compassionate, competent, and patient” and “run by the nicest people in the business.”
