Santa Barbara Surf School states that its mission is to provide a positive surf learning environment and to educate, inform, and teach ocean awareness and beach safety. The camp curriculum includes ocean awareness, beach safety, surfing etiquette, and Santa Barbara sea life. For each camper’s safety, every child must know how to swim, and families are told to send snacks, water, a bathing suit, a towel, and sunscreen. The camp provides shade for sun protection and states that campers have supervision at all times.

All instructors are AED/CPR certified as well as first aid certified, and each instructor has over 8 years of surf experience. The program maintains a 4:1 camper-to-instructor ratio, which is also described as a 4:1 student-to-instructor ratio, and the camp is described as resembling more of a semi-private lesson. Santa Barbara Surf School provides a warm full body 4/3 wetsuit and a softtop surfboard for campers.

Since 2002, Santa Barbara Surf School has been teaching little kids to adults the joys of surfing and is described as the premier surf school in Santa Barbara for over two decades. The camp location at Campus Point is described as a great location for mellow waves and plenty of beach space for instruction and games, and Mondos Beach is described as one of the best surf breaks in the state for a private camp experience.

The program is rated 5 out of 5. One Google reviewer wrote that the company is very professional, that lessons felt like hanging out with old friends, and that the instructor helped them understand both the basics of standing up on the board and how to read the water and waves. Another reviewer, Jeff, stated that the surf lesson was an amazing experience because the instructors were thorough and fun, and that even though he was scared of the ocean, they motivated him to try, and he was able to stand up on the board and find a new appreciation for surfing.
