The program uses a 4:1 camper to instructor ratio, and supervision is provided at all times.

All instructors are AED/CPR certified and first aid certified, and each instructor has more than 8 years of surf experience. The curriculum includes ocean awareness such as tide, winds, and swell, beach safety, surfing etiquette, and information about Santa Barbara sea life. For safety, every camper is required to know how to swim and to be healthy and able to swim, and families are asked to send children with snacks, water, a bathing suit, a towel, and sunscreen. The mission of Santa Barbara Surf School is to provide a positive surf learning environment and to educate, inform, and teach ocean awareness and beach safety. Since 2002, Santa Barbara Surf School has been teaching children and adults the joys of surfing, and the program is rated 5 out of 5 with licensed and CPR certified instructors.
