Boys & Girls Clubs of Mid Central Coast offers afterschool child development programming that includes STEAM programs and help with homework. The program also provides healthy daily snacks and access to adults who mentor and tutor members.

Since the first doors opened in 1966, Boys & Girls Clubs of Mid Central Coast has built a strong reputation for providing safe, educational, and fun programs for local youth between the ages of 6–18. The organization has expanded to two counties and 11 Clubs, with more than 1,500 registered youth members. In 2023, programming expanded to include service to children enrolled in TK/Kindergarten programs.

Boys & Girls Clubs of Mid Central Coast states that its mission is to support all youth and teens of every race, ethnicity, gender, gender expression, sexual orientation, ability, socio-economic status, and religion in reaching their full potential. Programs are structured to achieve priority outcomes in three main areas: Education, Character, and Health. The organization offers safe, inclusive spaces and experiences that empower members’ learning and growth.

Through outreach, including sponsored arts and sports programs, Boys & Girls Clubs of Mid Central Coast benefits an additional 4,000 local children each year. It serves members in the communities of Santa Maria, Guadalupe, Atascadero, Paso Robles, Creston, and Shandon. The organization oversees a budget of nearly $6 million raised from individual and corporate contributions, foundation and government grants, special events, and program service contracts.

Research from Boys & Girls Clubs has shown that its afterschool programs play a direct and critical role in fostering the growth and development of young children. Afterschool programs offered by Boys & Girls Clubs, such as STEAM programs and help with homework, are linked to improved academic success. These afterschool programs provide a safe and structured environment for young minds and have demonstrated a proven reduction in risky behaviors by youth and teens who participate in them.

Demographic data for Boys & Girls Clubs of Mid Central Coast show that 85% of members are Hispanic, with Spanish as the predominant language spoken in the home, and 70% qualify for English Learner support in school. Approximately 33% of members come from single parent homes, and about 90% qualify for free or reduced meal programs during the school year based on state and federal guidelines. Among members, 55% are male and 45% are female, with 17% teenagers and 83% ages 6–12. An alumni statistic from the organization reports that 57% of alumni say the Club saved their life.
