• Ages: 5–11 years old
Founded in 2006 as Upgrade Children's Center in Princeton-by-the-Sea by Jon and Heather Lowings, the program later became Coastal Adventures. Since its inception, it has included children, nature, adventure, learning, and recreational fun. Thousands of children have built friendships, explored the Coastside, built confidence and strength, and developed a lifelong respect for nature through the program. The Program Director, Jon Lowings, studied Recreational Administration at Cal Poly University in San Luis Obispo and has also worked for local state parks during the summer, inspiring and educating children in Earth stewardship. The program’s mission states that children get messy, are adventurous, and have a good time, and that through play and exploration it promotes a love of learning and a greater appreciation of nature, with authentic learning taking place as children investigate and interact with the world around them.
