About

Coastal Adventures is an outdoor education and adventures program where children take part in daily local excursions, daily outdoor adventures, arts, crafts, and active games. The program also offers reading and homework assistance as part of its activities. Coastal Adventures Summer Camp includes a new and enriching adventure every day, and the Coastal Adventures After School Program is an outdoor adventure-based after school care program for children in grades K–5th.

• Ages: 5–11 years old

Founded in 2006 as Upgrade Children's Center by Jon and Heather Lowings, Coastal Adventures has continued under the leadership of Program Director Jon Lowings. Jon studied Recreational Administration at Cal Poly University in San Luis Obispo. Since its inception, Coastal Adventures has included children, nature, adventure, learning, and fun, and thousands of children have built friendships, explored the Coastside, built confidence and strength, and developed a lifelong respect for nature through the program. The program’s mission states that kids need to be kids, get messy, be adventurous, and have a good time, and that through play and exploration it promotes a love of learning and a greater appreciation of nature, with authentic learning taking place when children investigate and interact with the world around them. Jon has also worked for local state parks during the summer, inspiring and educating children in Earth stewardship. Coastal Adventures wants children to explore the wonders of the stunning coast side and peninsula, develop respect for nature and a healthy outdoor lifestyle, while gaining confidence which will follow them into adulthood.
