Lazy H Ranch, 3100 Miramontes Point Road, Half Moon Bay, CA 94019
About
Lazy H Ranch Pony Camp and Riding Lessons includes Pony Camp and riding lessons where children ride and care for ponies or horses. Camp activities include a tour of the stables, meeting the animals, and a horse or pony show for the parents. Riders take part in catching, grooming, and tacking up their assigned pony or horse, and practice stopping, steering, trotting, cantering, maneuvering trail obstacles, gymkhana patterns, and riding drills.
• Ages: 6–14 years old
• Schedule: Each child is assigned their own pony or horse to ride and take care of for the week
• Price: Riding lessons in the fall, winter and spring are a bargain.
Lazy H Ranch Pony Camp and Riding Lessons was founded in 1992 by Breen and Emma Hofmann. The program’s stated philosophy is to teach total horsemanship and let each child advance at his or her own pace. Riders are assigned a pony or horse to suit their riding ability and confidence, and are responsible for catching, grooming, and tacking up their pony or horse. The ranch offers new horses for intermediate to advanced riders and lots of safe ponies for beginners, as well as group, semi-private, and private riding lessons. Breen and Emma both grew up in Half Moon Bay.
One parent described the location as beautiful, said the owners Breen and Emma are laid back and down to earth, and noted that the young women counselors are great role models for young girls. The same parent mentioned that there are goats, chickens, and various dogs on the property, and that their child has attended Pony Camp for several years and enjoys returning. The testimonial also states that riding lessons in the fall, winter and spring are a bargain and that Lazy H is different from “hoity toity” horse places in other parts of the peninsula.
