About

Young Actors Workshop is an afterschool theater program where students create original plays and perform them for the community. Through weekly classes, students use guided improvisation to develop imaginative story lines, unique characters, original dialogue, humor, and songs. They also create and star in original musical productions, including a Spring show that is an original musical developed by the students during their weekly workshops, and an event at Half Moon Bay's annual Pumpkin Festival.

• Ages: 5–18 years old

Young Actors Workshop was founded in 1990 with the objective to provide a positive environment in which children can develop theater skills and have opportunities for public performance. The program offers creative programs by and for kids, including an afterschool theater program for kids from K–12th grade in Half Moon Bay and Oakland, California. The students create original plays which they perform for the community, and they showcase their work in two performances each year: an event at Half Moon Bay's annual Pumpkin Festival and the Spring show. One parent, Pamela, shared that her favorite part is the children's creativity in developing their characters and that her kids always love going and never complain. Another parent, Shannon, said her favorite thing is that it is child driven, giving the kids full expression of their true selves. An adult alumnus, Zac, said Young Actors Workshop impacted his life by giving him an outlet to use his imagination and creativity.
