Hayward Panthers Basketball Program offers AAU basketball teams that take part in spring and summer basketball programs as well as fall and winter basketball programs. Players in the program participate in both local tournaments and travel tournaments.
• Ages: 9–14 years old
• Schedule: Spring and Summer program runs from March through the end of August; Fall and Winter program runs from September through the end of February
Hayward Panthers Basketball Program was started in 1999 and ran through 2007, and the program was resurrected in August 2018. The program includes AAU basketball teams for boys ages 9–14 and has 30+ teams and 400+ players. Travel tournaments are usually held in Anaheim and Las Vegas, and most tournaments are local, with a few exceptions for travel tournaments in Portland and Anaheim. The program operates in both spring/summer and fall/winter seasons, with tryouts generally scheduled for the first or second week of March and typically in the first or second week of September. Hayward Panthers Basketball Program is a 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization and has a stated vision that includes teaching sound, technical basketball skills and game strategy, providing opportunities to play competitive basketball at various levels, and living and teaching the concepts of teamwork, sportsmanship, respect, and accountability. The mission statement also notes a focus on fundamental skills, physical athleticism, and life skills such as self-confidence, leadership, hard work, being a teammate, respect, determination, humility, listening, and having fun through competition, with an emphasis on training student-athletes for premier, elite, and competitive level events. The program describes itself as bringing a high quality, professionally run basketball program to the surrounding area, with more than 20 years of legacy, 10K fans, and a commitment to being a responsive, open, communicative, and well-organized basketball club. It also states that it teaches teamwork, discipline, and sportsmanship on and off the court, is dedicated to a highly organized experience in a safe and positive environment, and provides financial assistance to players who otherwise would not have the opportunity to participate in a well-organized athletic program.
