About
Sun Gallery Art Programs and Summer Camps offers Art Parties, Art Socials, Field Trips, School Visits, Art Summer Camps, Summer Art Camp, and free Family Art Saturdays. Summer Art Camp uses a makerspace, stage, and courtyard, and each week has a different theme and activity schedule.
• Ages: 5–13 years old
• Schedule: Options include week-long summer camps Monday–Friday 9am–3pm, 2-hour field trips, 1.5-hour school visits, and 2–3 hour art socials, with additional art parties on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays.
• Price: Art Parties start at $200 for 10 people (plus $25 for each additional person), Art Socials are $25 per person, Field Trips are $225 for a 2-hour class (increasing to $250 in Fall 2026, with an optional book illustrator for an additional $40), School Visits are $250 for 1.5 hours (increasing to $300 in Fall 2026), and Summer Art Camp promotions include “Buy 2 weeks, get a 3rd free” or “Buy 1 week and bring a friend free,” with three camps adding a $375 discount at checkout.
Art Parties are led by a diverse group of art educators and include an 8×10 canvas and supplies, while Art Socials include a 16×20 canvas and supplies. Field Trips include a tour of the exhibition, a hands-on project based on the work viewed, a focus on art principles and vocabulary, active discussion, and a personal artwork to take home. School Visits provide an educational art experience about the power of art, insight into the current exhibition, and a hands-on art lesson with supplied materials to create pieces in the style of exhibiting artists. Art Summer Camps are week-long, material-inclusive programs organized during summertime for kids of all ages, where students learn art fundamentals, create individual and group pieces, meet exhibiting artists, and have access to the gallery.
Since 1976, Sun Gallery has offered visual art exhibitions and educational programs that reflect the diverse cultural populations of Hayward and the surrounding area. The gallery works in partnership with local education institutions, government, businesses, corporations, and community service organizations to develop visual arts programming that welcomes and engages audiences of all ages. Sun Gallery arranges annual pro-environmental exhibits that teach about the dangers of global warming and organizes a community get-together to help beautify the gallery, including fixing up the back area. Family Art Saturdays and gallery visits are always free, and Sun Gallery states that its community is a top priority and that it aims to make the arts more accessible for families of all economic backgrounds.
