About
Hollister Presbyterian Cooperative Preschool is a parent participation preschool where children learn and develop through play in cozy classrooms. The preschool operates as San Benito County's only co-op preschool, with a co-operative preschool program that has been in existence since the school’s inception. The classroom and playground are meticulously clean and well stocked, and the child/adult ratio in the preschool classroom is 5:1.
• Ages: 2–5 years old
• Schedule: Mon–Fri; currently operating under limited summer hours (families are asked to call or email for details)
Hollister Presbyterian Cooperative Preschool was founded in 1963, and its co-operative preschool program has been part of the school since that time. The preschool is a Christ focused, Christian based, non-profit preschool that accepts families of all religious denominations and is a ministry of the Christ Fellowship Church. It is described as a non-profit, non-sectarian, and non-partisan organization that admits students of any race, religion, national and ethnic origin and does not discriminate on that basis in administration of educational policies, admissions policies, scholarship and loan programs, athletic and other school-administered programs.
The mission of Hollister Presbyterian Cooperative Preschool is to offer a program that provides for the development of the whole child and enhances his or her spiritual, emotional, physical, and intellectual growth. The preschool offers a variety of classes for preschool-aged children and provides an informative monthly newsletter.
The preschool is licensed by the State of California, exceeds all state teaching regulations, and is also described as meeting all State teaching regulations. Staff include State credentialed, Christian teachers, State qualified preschool teachers and director, and CPR/First Aid certified staff. The leadership team includes Ms. Anna and Ms. Patty.
Hollister Presbyterian Cooperative Preschool has a School Board of parent volunteers, and parental participation in the classroom exists daily and is compulsory. The program offers an opportunity for parents to be an active part of their child's early education, and parents also learn and grow in their abilities to be child educators at home, school, and in their community. The preschool maintains a strong community atmosphere, with community field trips and special events for holidays.
One parent and board member, Christina, describes classrooms as cozy, teachers as loving, and notes that her family has had all three teachers and that they are “AMAZING,” and she shares that the school has become a special part of her family. Another former parent, Neusa, states that all three of her children attended and were met with care, patience, and genuine compassion, and she highly recommends the preschool to families looking for a caring preschool community. A parent named Dorothy notes that her daughter has been attending since last fall, mentions small class sizes with two parent volunteers in addition to the teacher each day, describes the approach as child-led and prioritizing kids’ emotional comfort, and comments that the classroom and playground are meticulously clean and well stocked.
