Morgan horses at Triton are described as bold and intelligent, curious and alert, with a calm and gentle disposition that is described as suitable for children as well as veteran or inexperienced riders.

Owner and trainer/instructor Susie Morgan has a lifetime of accomplishments in the equestrian world. She was a former judge and coach of the Stanford Western Riding Team and was acknowledged in Helen Crabtree's revised edition of “Saddle Seat Equitation.” Susie’s first riding lessons were at Leo Dupee Stables, a Saddlebred stable in Culver City, and by age 9 she was in the show ring. She was hired by Bob Morgan Sr. in 1971, beginning her professional journey with Triton Morgan Horses. From 1972 to 1982, Susie operated California’s first public Morgan training stable in Livermore with Garn Walker, and in 1983 she opened her own facility, “Susan’s Stable,” in Southern California. While at Silver Oaks Ranch she trained 25 Saddlebreds and jogged and rode World Champion 5-gaited horse Imperator. Susie was awarded Trainer of the Year in 2000 and received the Golden Reins Award in 2005 for her involvement and dedication as a judge, clinician, convention speaker, and panelist.

The Triton Morgan Horse breeding program was founded by W. Robert and June Morgan in 1960 at Red Fox Stable in Gilroy, California. Starting in the 1960s and thereafter, the Morgan family built the herd, and over four hundred Morgan horses have been bred with the Triton prefix. The family purchased and operated the Green Mountain Stock Farm in Randolph, Vermont. The end of 2000 marked Susie’s return to Red Fox and Triton and her joining forces with Bob Morgan. In June 2004, Triton Morgan Horses moved to a new facility in Hollister, California. Bob Morgan grew up in the tradition of breeding, training, showing, and selling Morgan horses and has been an estate planning attorney and trustee with a practice in San Jose, California, since 1978. Bob was awarded Region VII Breeder of the Year. With the sudden passing of Bob Morgan in spring of 2024, the Triton breeding program will continue.

The program’s mission includes Susie continuing to teach and inspire people of all ages about Morgan horses, horse care, and riding and driving. A parent testimonial states that for Susie, safety on and off the horse is always the main priority. Another testimonial describes Susie as engaging, knowledgeable, and encouraging with beginner children and notes that the horses and facilities are beautiful. A testimonial from a parent of a young child reports that Susie respected their daughter’s interest in Western riding, that the child learned to love English style riding as well, and that in less than a year their 3-year-old was riding on her own, trotting, posting, and enjoying her time with “her horse” and Susie. Another testimonial describes Susie as a “world class trainer, breeder and published Morgan Horse expert” and mentions a ribbon-laden barn showcasing years of accomplishments. The program invites families to follow Triton Morgan Horses on Facebook.
