About

AstroCamp offers hands-on science, astronomy, outdoor adventure, and classic camp activities, along with mountain adventures, creative arts, traditional camp favorites, and outdoor education. Campers can also take part in cooking and baking activities that include a focus on kitchen safety. AstroCamp also offers Camp CHOP, a hands-on culinary summer camp.

• Ages: 8–17 years old
• Schedule: One-week and two-week overnight summer camps, including a 1-week summer camp for ages 8–13, a 2-week summer camp for ages 12–17, and a Specialty Week for ages 10–17

For more than 40 years, AstroCamp’s counselors have created lasting memories and meaningful experiences for campers. AstroCamp is associated with Guided Discoveries and is described as a top ranked overnight summer camp. AstroCamp offers educational specialty week camps and culinary camps in addition to its 1- to 2-week overnight summer camps. Campers in the two-week program can select from more than 40 activities before arrival, and the camp operates in a supportive, screen-free environment where campers develop teamwork, communication, and problem-solving skills. A Parent Guide is available with an overview of cabins, schedules, meals, and preparing for camp.

AstroCamp provides daily camper photos through the Campanion app or a CampInTouch account, and all photo downloads via Campanion are free. The Campanion app uses facial recognition to curate photos of campers and notifies parents when new photos are uploaded. Parents can send camper emails (Bunk Notes) through Campanion or CampInTouch using CampStamps, and AstroCamp provides 5 CampStamps per parent per camper per week, with additional CampStamps available for purchase and unused CampStamps rolling over from previous seasons. Each email requires one CampStamp per recipient. Parents can request a hand-written letter from their camper, which is bar-coded with the camper’s name, scanned, and emailed back through the Parent Account. Postcards or letters can be mailed to campers, and care packages are not accepted unless a parent contacts the Camp Director about sending something specific. Telephone calls to or from campers are not allowed, and in-session visits or tours are not allowed. Parents may call the camp between 8:00am and 5:00pm, and calls after 5:00pm or on weekends may be answered by a camp administrator or an answering machine that provides a number for emergencies.

One parent described AstroCamp as “the best value in extended education.” Another parent reported that a camper “loved the outdoor education, meals from the kitchen and the overall experience” and plans to return. A camper shared that they kept coming back because of the community building and friendships and attended for almost a decade. Another family stated that “learning about the universe has never been so engaging, active or fun,” and noted that the camp is beautiful and the instructors are knowledgeable and work well with kids.
