Camp Scherman Summer Sleepaway Camp offers activities such as canoeing, archery, arts and crafts, hikes, a climbing tower, axe throwing, and late-night programming. Camp Scherman Summer Sleepaway Camp is an outdoor experience for Girl Scouts in grades 2–12 and has been in operation for over 50 years. Program options include Artrageous for grades 4–6 in RH Cabins, Brownie Blast for grades 2–3 in RH Cabins with themed sessions such as Fairies and Friends, Mermaids and Magic, and Scherman Scientists, Camper Sampler for grades 4–6 in RH Cabins, Camper Explorer for grades 7–12 in RH Cabins with themes After Dark Exploration, Read, Relax & Recharge, and The Art of Survival, and Camper Odyssey for grades 7–12 in RH Cabins. Camp Scherman reports that 75% of campers return every year and that it has served 15,000 Girl Scouts.
Financial aid “camperships” are available to GSOC youth campers with a current Girl Scout membership on the basis of financial need only and apply to Camp Scherman summer sleepaway camps, Camp Scherman weekend camps, and GSOC day camps, and camperships must be submitted no less than 6 weeks before the camp start date. Registration is ongoing throughout the spring and early summer, and sessions close 2 weeks before the camp session begins or when they reach full capacity; for full sessions, a waitlist is maintained and families are contacted if a spot becomes available. The Summer Camp Cancellation Policy includes a full refund minus the $75 deposit per camper more than 4 weeks before camp, and no refund less than 4 weeks before camp except for medical reasons approved by Girl Scouts of Orange County. The pricing system’s three tiers are confidential, and every camper receives the same Camp Scherman experience regardless of pricing tier.
