Dragon’s Music Program offers band, orchestra, guitar, choir, general music instruction, ukulele, and guitar instruction. The program is 100% tuition free and lends out instruments and music supplies for every student to use at home. In the program, passionate learners with limited access to musical instruction join an interactive teaching team that focuses on music in many forms, including band, orchestra, guitar, and choir.
Dragon’s Music Program began through the Dragon Kim Foundation, which started in 2015 with a music program and launched a small music program with 14 kids in January 2016. The program now serves over 200 young children and high school teaching assistants every year, with one location in Los Angeles County and one in Orange County. At one site, children can choose choir, band, or strings orchestra, and at another site, children receive general music instruction, ukulele, and guitar instruction. The program’s mission is to inspire youth to impact their communities while discovering and pursuing their passions. Music Student Teachers in the program receive feedback and mentoring from credentialed Master Teachers. The leadership team includes Daniel Kim (Co-founder & CEO), Amber Serafin (Program Director), Dan Pittman (Press Relations Consultant), Angeline Villar (Fellowship Program Coordinator), Joy Kim (Joy Loo Kim, Director of Operations), Grace Tsai (Co-Founder & Board Member), Jack Toan (Chairman), Stacy Handley (Secretary), and Board Members Bonnie Carlson, Teren Shaffer, Kerri Sonenshine, Bill Tate, Helen Yi, and Phillip Gomez.
