About

Knock Around Camps offers a wide range of activities, including swimming, arts and crafts, gymnastics, science projects, rock climbing, camp games, and archery. Campers can take surf lessons, hike to tide pools, learn basics of marine biology, build sand castles, and play on the beach, as well as swim in the Canyonview Pool and play camp games at Warren College. Additional options include basic programming, building a robot made of Legos for an end-of-session contest, inner-tube water polo, diving lessons, kayak jousting, stroke practice, dance combinations inspired by hip hop, jazz, contemporary, and Musical Theater, plus activities such as Magic, Dungeons and Dragons, fencing, rock-climbing, gardening, hiking, basic outdoor skills, tennis, pickleball, badminton, basketball, soccer, flag football, visiting the Birch Aquarium, trips to the beach, visits to Scripps Pier, and kayaking in Mission Bay.

Knock Around Camps are only available for purchase to families that are included in the 2026 pre-registration lottery. Knock Around Variety Camp blends scheduled activities with free-time play, and Beach Camp applies the Knock Around philosophy to the beach, with surf instructors and certified lifeguards present the whole camp day and a ratio of three children to every one adult when playing in the ocean. All campers who wish to go in the ocean at Beach Camp must pass a swim test on the first day of the session, and campers must be able to pass a swim test in order to participate in Aquatics Camp, which focuses on fun and games in the pool. Gymnastics Camp provides expert coaching from experienced staff and includes other Knock Around Camp games, events, and swimming in an indoor natatorium pool, while Archery Camp takes place in the Warren College area, uses the Warren field for archery, Canyonview Pool for swimming, and Warren College for camp games, with archery equipment provided. Robotics campers build a functional robot made of Legos that will compete in an end-of-session contest, Dance Camp culminates in a routine performed live on stage or captured in a keepsake video for family and friends, and Fine Arts Camp offers Craft Exploration, Fiber Art Fun, Handbuilding with Clay, Jewelry/Beadwork, Mixed Media with Wood, and Mixed Media with Painting in partnership with the UC San Diego Craft Center. Fantasy/Sci-Fi Camp includes activities such as Magic, Dungeons and Dragons, and medieval-like role play, Fencing Camp (Jr. Musketeers program) emphasizes skills development, immediate application to competitive fencing, and good sportsmanship with fencing equipment provided, Outdoor Adventures Camp activities are taught by counselors and Outback professionals, Racquet Sports Camp is non-competitive and introduces tennis, pickleball, and badminton in a small group atmosphere with pickleball and badminton racquets provided and some tennis racquets available, and Team Sports Camp focuses on various team-based sports and popular Knock Around Camp games with participants expected to be active the entire day. Leadership Camp is designed for campers entering 7th, 8th, and 9th grade and offers themed sessions that use team exercises, specially designed challenges, and hands-on mentorship with Knock Around campers, and Leadership Camp Session 2 has an Ocean Life and Conservation theme that includes immersion in basic marine biology, a visit to the Birch Aquarium, trips to the beach and Scripps Pier, and kayaking in Mission Bay.

The Recreation mission for Knock Around Camps is that Recreation engages students and the campus community to pursue lifelong wellbeing, growth, and success.
