Art & Creativity for Healing is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that offers Art4Healing workshops in its studio and live via Zoom, with select courses offered online as pre-recorded curriculum. The organization states that it is not an Art Therapy provider and that leaders are facilitators of the creative process, not therapists, and Art4Healing facilitators do not offer any interpretation or diagnosis. The Art4Healing curriculum uses strictly guided exercises specially designed to elicit emotional responses, and the program gives pain a voice and meaning by providing expressive abstract art workshops to support emotional healing.
The unique Art4Healing method was developed by Founder Laurie Zagon, and trained and certified facilitators share this methodology. Art & Creativity for Healing offers the only accredited certification program in the Art4Healing method and the only globally recognized Art4Healing International Certification, which is exclusively available online. Students in the certification program are matched with an Art4Healing Coach who answers questions and reviews their assignments and workshops they have facilitated, and graduates are using Art4Healing in communities from New Zealand to Canada to Orange County, California.
Since its inception in 2000, Art & Creativity for Healing reports having helped tens of thousands of people explore self-healing with art, and Art4Healing marks 25 years of empowering individuals to heal through art. The mission of Art & Creativity for Healing is to support emotional healing through art and creative expression for those living in pain, grief, fear, or stress. The organization partners with schools, shelters, and other nonprofit agencies to integrate Art4Healing programs and works with more than 35 nonprofit program partners in Orange and San Diego counties.
Parent and participant feedback includes comments from a parent who shared that a workshop was “the most that little Logan had opened up since his mom passed away,” and another parent who described the bereavement 4-week class as “a great release of our sadness and a very special way to make memories of the loved ones we were grieving.” A participant in the Expressing Feelings with Color class reported that it “really relieved some stress” and that her son “came home singing that evening at the completion of the class.” A teen participant stated, “This art class helped me get out a lot of feelings that were making me feel mad all the time,” and another participant described the workshops as “fun, relaxing, enlightening, and totally cathartic” and said they “always learn something new” about themselves.
