About

Antelope Valley YMCA Youth Sports offers teens the chance to volunteer in a variety of roles, including Jr. Clippers Basketball, Soccer, Futsal, NHL Street Hockey / LA Kings Ball Hockey, and Flag Football. Volunteer positions include Ball Hockey Coach, Basketball Coach, Basketball Assistant Coach, Dodgers Dreamteam Coach, Soccer Coach, Team Parent, Game Clock Assistant, court attendants, and scorekeepers.

• Ages: 16–18 years old
• Schedule: 6–8 week seasons throughout Winter, Spring, Summer, Fall I, and Fall II, with breaks on holidays

The program takes place at the Antelope Valley Family YMCA. For the 2026 program year, seasons run Winter (Jan 26 – Mar 21), Spring (Apr 13 – June 6), Summer (June 22 – Aug 15), Fall I (Aug 31 – Oct 17), and Fall II (Nov 2 – Dec 19). Teens ages 16–17 may volunteer with parent or guardian consent as court attendants or scorekeepers. No prior coaching experience is required, and the Y provides training, resources, and ongoing support. All volunteers must complete background checks and mandatory training on child abuse and bullying. The Youth Sports Coordinator is Rigo Galvez, and the Senior Director is Aries Frederick. The mission for youth sports at the Antelope Valley YMCA states that sports are about more than wins and losses and connects to the YMCA of Metropolitan Los Angeles’ Center for Community Well-Being vision of helping every child Be Well, Do Good, and Lead Change.
