Okinawa Te Karate is a comprehensive combat martial arts program that includes martial arts and self-defense skills such as dynamic hand strikes, kicks, proper footwork, joint locks and submissions, throws, take downs, take down defenses, break falls, escapes and counters to all holds, and ground fighting defense. Training also includes defense against knives and clubs, as well as offensive weapon techniques for advanced students.
• Ages: 5–18 years old
• Schedule: Youth classes for ages 5–11 meet Monday and Wednesday at 5:15 p.m.; teen classes for ages 11–16 meet Tuesday and Thursday at 5:15 p.m.; adult classes for ages 16 and up meet Tuesday and Thursday at 7:15 p.m.
Okinawa-Te is a comprehensive combat martial art system founded by Grand Master Gordon A. Doversola and developed with the idea of balance at its core. It is considered by many to be the original mixed martial art and is described as a highly respected system with a long and acclaimed history in Lancaster, and as Lancaster’s longest running established martial arts program. Okinawa Te Karate is recognized and endorsed through its core members Richard Triplett and John Helms as the highest rank within the core by Professor David Bellman, 10th Dan Founder of Mushin Ryu Jujitsu, and Dr. Ron Chapel, 10th Dan, Kenpo International Director, Sub Level Four.
The program’s stated goal is to instill self-confidence, honesty, courage, and character in its students, and it focuses on developing self-defense skills, strength, and coordination. Its mission is to teach and promote Okinawa-Te as created by Shihan and grow the organization, and its vision is to ensure that the legacy of Shihan Gordon Doversola and the art of Okinawa-Te are carried on to future generations. Okinawa-Te training is described as improving flexibility and strength, confidence, physical conditioning, reaction time, discipline, self-defense, concentration and coordination, stress relief, attention span, and respect for others, and it teaches emotional control, self confidence, situational awareness, and develops courage and physical coordination.
The leadership team includes Grand Master Gordon A. Doversola (founder of Okinawa-Te), Shihan Gordon Doversola, and USA core members John Arnold, Ivan Brandler, Czarina Doversola, Jorge Godinez, John Helms, and Richard Triplett, with core representation listed in Lancaster, CA (Richard Triplett), Northridge, CA (John Helms), Simi Valley, CA (David Hall Aranui), and New Zealand (Mary Patu).
