The South Bay Rockies is inspired by the MLB Colorado Rockies. The team consists of players aged 10 to 18 years old who participate in various leagues and tournaments throughout the year, including a spring tournament in Palm Springs and a summer tournament in San Diego. The program evaluates players based on their skills and also on their work ethic, positive attitude, and love and respect for the game of baseball. According to the program, there is a 95% success rate in advancing players to the high school level. The stated primary goal is to develop baseball players from the South Bay community and Greater Los Angeles area by imparting advanced baseball skills and strategic knowledge on the field.
