APEX: Active Play Experience for Kids

APEX: Active Play Experience for Kids offers games and activities that include a rock-climbing wall, trampoline, ball pit, basketball, soccer, monkey bars, climbing ladders, trapeze bars, and various obstacle course options. The program also offers instructor-led classes that use these play areas and equipment. The indoor play space is described as exciting for kids who are crawling up to 7 years old and focuses on active play using these features.

• Schedule: Open Monday–Thursday 9 am–5 pm, Friday 9 am–12 pm, and Saturday–Sunday 10 am–5 pm

The play area includes a large special events room for private birthday parties that can host 15–35 child guests and has a kitchenette for food and cake service. Registration and payment are done online through the APEX for Kids app, and individuals showing signs of illness are not admitted, with frequent hand sanitizing encouraged for everyone who enters. Active Play Experience for Kids states that it strives to be a dynamic, safe environment where children learn, explore, and practice basic motor skills, and that acquiring these skills at a young age enhances development, improves body control, and builds self-confidence. The mission also states that games and activities introduce young children to the proper form of fundamental movement skills, and that instructor-led classes provide a safe, nurturing environment to practice new physical skills, create a foundation of athletic movements, build self-confidence, and encourage children to be the best they can be. The program is owned by Ed Sais, whose early jobs were as a lifeguard and swim instructor for children, and who ran classes for fourteen years at Bright Child, a kids’ gym and play space in Santa Monica. The program notes that it is opening in August 2015.
