Kids Sewing Workshops

Kids Sewing Workshops gives kids the chance to sew projects such as scrunchies, reversible tote bags, zippered pouches, holiday stockings and tree ornaments, skirts, tops, and a Patchwork Tote. Each class starts with a 15–20 minute introduction to the sewing machine, and first-time sewers learn to work basic stitches before starting a project to take home at the end of the day. If a child already knows the basics, they can skip the introduction and start the project immediately.

Workshops are catered towards ages 8–12 and are offered in small groups with plenty of individual attention. All materials are included, and sewing machines and all equipment are provided; parents are asked to send water and a snack and to walk their children into the studio to sign in before leaving. Kids Sewing Workshops is part of The Moving Thread, which focuses on beginner to intermediate sewing and garment construction and encourages a connection to clothes and how things are made.

Kids Sewing Workshops is led by Lissa, who completed a degree in Fashion Design. Twenty-five years later, after completing this degree, running two self-owned clothing lines, and raising two young girls, Lissa started the sewing workshops and now teaches the classes.
