About
California Polo Club Lessons offers polo lessons, polo classes, group classes, and private instruction that can include chukkers and full polo games. The program also provides horse care activities such as grooming, training, and horse care services, and it supports horse boarding. Areas at the club are available for rentals, private events, and community events.
• Schedule: Chukkers and polo lessons are available Tuesday–Sunday, with lessons and/or game play offered six days a week; spectators can watch games on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 7:30 PM, and on Saturdays and Sundays at 9 AM.
California Polo Club was established in 1876 and reopened its doors in 1995. Continuing the tradition that began in 1876, three polo players – Rodney Fragodt, Ralph Rosato, and Carlos Figueroa – reopened the club for business at its current location in January 1995. Since reopening in 1995, the club’s stated mission has been to make polo accessible to all, provide comprehensive lessons, and foster a welcoming community for both novices and seasoned players, with a philosophy of supporting the polo community, both riders and horses, in what it describes as the best arena polo environment possible.
The club is a longstanding member of the United States Polo Association (USPA) and is an official USPA Polo Club. Its regulation size arena is considered the best on the West Coast, and the barn features 60 spacious, covered stalls for boarding with full service grooming, training, and horse care. Polo America chose the facility as the Best Arena Polo Club in the country in 2013 and 2014, and as the Best Polo School in the country in 2013 and 2014. The club is the proud host of the U.S. Arena Open Polo Championship every other year, with events held in 2007, 2009, 2011, 2021, 2023, and scheduled again for 2025, and it is the home of the WCT Arena Polo Championship, described as the premiere all-women’s arena polo National Championship. California Polo Club also hosts numerous USPA sanctioned and local events annually, all matches are open to the public for free viewing, and the club accepts contributions and polo scholarships to help support the club and grow the community. The U.S. Polo Association has described it as offering “The best arena polo in SoCal.” Weekly summer cookouts are held for members, students, and guests.
