About

Los Angeles Boys & Girls Club After School & Camp Programs include homework help, tutoring, and activities in academics and STEM. The program also offers social recreation, art, dance, and a variety of sports and recreation, including baseball, basketball, swim lessons, and sports league participation. Campers are encouraged to join all activities, and they are asked to leave electronics and expensive personal items at home, with cell phones put away and used only to call family as needed.

• Ages: 5–17 years old
• Schedule: After-school options on school days and full-day holiday and vacation programs, with some days running from early morning through early evening

Full day programs run from 7:30am to 6:00pm when there is no school, and Holiday and Summer Camp hours are also 7:30am to 6:00pm. Camp is drop-in, with camp open from 9:00am to 6:00pm and an extended day available from 7:30am to 9:00am, and campers may arrive any time after 9:00am and be picked up any time before closing. After-school programs are listed as open from 2:30pm to 6:30pm each day after school, and also as open 2:00pm to 7:00pm Monday–Friday, and full-day vacation programs are open 7:30am to 6:00pm Monday–Friday.

Children and teens may bring their own food or have free meals at the Club, including a cold breakfast, hot lunch, and afternoon snack, and healthy meals are served daily for kids. Programs are described as promoting Academic Success, Character & Citizenship, and Healthy Lifestyles, and children are grouped by age and take part in activities tailored to their age level. The Los Angeles Boys & Girls Club provides a safe environment for kids ages 5 to 17 years and offers services to both youth and their families, including modified in-person after school care with COVID-19 protocols in place.

Emergency evacuation and response procedures for earthquake, fire, active shooter, lockdown, and other emergencies are posted in each class and practiced through weekly drills, and there is a designated relocation spot for full facility evacuation that parents can ask about at registration. Club rules are stated as: Be SAFE, Be Respectful, Be Responsible, Act with Kindness, Follow Directions, and HAVE FUN. If a teen or tween ages 12 and older is to walk home, a special waiver may be signed at the front desk, and the Club is not responsible for lost or stolen items.

The mission of the Los Angeles Boys & Girls Club is to inspire and enable all youth, especially from disadvantaged circumstances, to realize their full potential as productive, caring and responsible members of the community. The Los Angeles Boys & Girls Club was founded in 1944 as the Los Angeles Times Boys’ Club, its current building was dedicated in 1950 by The LA Times Charities, and in 1990 the Club became the Los Angeles Boys & Girls Club, officially including girls in the club.

The Club offers a weekly food bank and free grocery distribution for families in need of food and other essentials every Thursday at 4:00pm, with door-to-door delivery available for those who prefer to stay home. Los Angeles Boys & Girls Club families in Altadena impacted by the Eaton Fire receive support that includes food delivery to affected areas, free after-school and summer camp programs, and comprehensive emergency response services. The Club serves children, youth, and families from throughout Los Angeles, with target areas in the Northeast Los Angeles communities of Lincoln Heights, Highland Park, El Sereno, Glassell Park, Cypress Park, Montecito Heights, Boyle Heights, Echo Park, Chinatown, and Downtown Los Angeles.
