Lula Washington Dance Theatre School

Lula Washington Dance Theatre School offers dance classes at the Lula Washington Dance Theatre studio. The program is part of the larger Lula Washington Dance Theatre organization, which includes a school, youth ensemble, facility, professional dance company, and overall infrastructure and operations.

The Lula Washington Contemporary Dance Foundation is a non-profit organization founded in 1980 by Lula and Erwin Washington. The foundation was founded to provide a creative outlet for minority dance artists in South Los Angeles and is a 501(c)3 tax exempt non-profit organization. Through its school and educational programs, it states that it aims to inspire and educate children in dance throughout Los Angeles and across the United States.

Lula Washington Dance Theatre is comprised of three different branches dedicated to achieving its mission. It is a Los Angeles based repertory dance ensemble that performs choreography by Lula Washington and by established and emerging choreographers, and it relies on donations to support its work. The leadership team includes Lula Washington as Co-founder and Artistic Director, Erwin Washington as Co-founder and Executive Director, and Tamica Washington-Miller as Associate Director, Choreographer, and Dancer. A testimonial from the New York Times states, “Lula Washington is a gifted original who is doing something more than right.”
