About

Nature School LA centers its days around stories, exploration, discussions, and unstructured play in an outdoor classroom setting. The program uses playful, non-traditional learning so children engage with math, writing, language, art, music, movement, science, and meditation through open-ended, hands-on experiences. Activities take place across L.A.’s beautiful parks, native landscapes, beaches, and trails.

• Ages: 2–11 years old
• Schedule: Forest School Program September–May; school starts in September and ends in May

Established in 2018, Nature School LA is inspired by Scandinavian, German, and Swiss Forest Schools and offers immersive nature-based education with year-round outdoor learning in Los Angeles, including special Spring, Summer, and Winter camps. The program follows a holistic approach that gives equal attention to social-emotional, cognitive, and physical development, with activities that support balance, coordination, and agility. Nature School LA integrates academic concepts into a nature-based curriculum, emphasizes environmental stewardship, and offers different age level classes and extended school hours. The program is a partner with charter schools. One parent testimonial describes it as adding “a pinch of adventure, a sprinkle of sunshine and a big handful of outdoor play” alongside technology, school, and extracurricular activities.
