About
Pacific Opera Project Education & Engagement Programs features live music, storytelling, singing, and opera education. The program includes animation and live performance, narration, kid-friendly activities and crafts, and performances with a live orchestra.

• Schedule: Weekend sessions with approximately 60-minute programs and no intermission
Pacific Opera Project was founded in 2011, and its Education & Engagement Department was established in 2021. The organization is embarking on its 15th Anniversary Season. Its mission is to reimagine opera as an affordable adventure by making unforgettable, entertaining performances accessible for all. The Education & Engagement Department supports ABIDE (Accessibility, Belonging, Inclusion, Diversity, and Equity).
The programs include family favorite stories with larger-than-life animation and live music, including an early childhood musical adventure through the world of Eric Carle. Five of Eric Carle’s most popular tales are presented in English and come to life on stage and screen through animation and live performance, pairing award-winning animation by Illuminated Film Company on the big screen with live orchestra, narrator, and singers. The program is designed for children ages 2 and up and their families as an interactive first introduction to live music and opera in a playful, welcoming setting where little ones are invited to wiggle and giggle.
Pacific Opera Project engages with the Highland Park community at its headquarters, POP HQ, and introduces opera education to children in Title I schools and historically underserved neighborhoods. It offers engagement events to the community and serves students in in-school and summer education programs, aiming to offer an inclusive and welcoming environment where youth and adults, particularly those in Northeast Los Angeles and who may not otherwise have access, can experience opera. POP presents productions in venues ranging from outdoor gardens and historic theaters to intimate clubs and community spaces, and almost all productions are available to watch free online.
The Los Angeles Times included Pacific Opera Project among the “Best of 2024 in Classical Music,” a worldwide list that also included the LA Phil, the Salzburg Festival, and the Ojai Festival.
