Saken Sports Camp was founded in summer 1994 by Rio Saken and is celebrating its 32nd anniversary as a day and sports camp provider in Los Angeles. The leadership team includes founder and director Coach Rio and camp director Chase. The staff includes respected, well-trained, and experienced teachers, coaches, athletes, and college students in the community who have a passion for teaching children. Coach Rio has been teaching and coaching at the elementary and middle school levels for over 30 years and has been coaching at a local private school in Los Angeles for over 25 years, leading teams in football, baseball, basketball, volleyball, track, swimming, and soccer to over 35 championship league titles.

Saken Sports Camp states that it is built on the philosophy that all children should have a phenomenal camp experience regardless of gender, age, or athletic ability, and it focuses on building character and emphasizes playing with pride, playing with honor, and playing for fun. The camp’s stated goal is for each camper to have an unforgettable experience participating in various sports, games, and activities in a safe environment, and it states that campers leave with an enhanced value of sportsmanship, character, and self-confidence. Saken Sports Camp is described as an inclusive Summer Camp and Spring Camp and as a family-oriented sports camp where each camper is made to feel like coming to camp is their second home. The program notes that children do not have to be great athletes to enjoy Saken, only kids who love to have fun and make friends to last a lifetime.

The camp offers a Camper/Counselor-In-Training program for boys and girls in grades 9–12 and a Jr. CIT program for 7th and 8th graders. Financial aid is available. Daily recognition traditions include Morning “Shout-Outs” to campers in each group, along with Camper of the Day, Sportsperson of the Day, Camper of the Week, Camper of the Year, Sportsperson of the Year, and the camp “Toddy Award.” Coach Rio follows a hands-on approach and is involved in all aspects of the program, greeting and working with children daily to help ensure a positive experience. Saken Sports Camp Inc. is described as an independent program that is not sanctioned, conducted, supervised, or reviewed by the school where it operates.

Saken Sports Camp highlights its involvement in the community by supporting the El Segundo Fun Run, cheering on runners, and bringing energy throughout the event.
