About
The Children's Ranch is a community program where students take part in animal caretaking activities such as grooming, mucking, feeding, leading, bathing, and socializing with animals. The program focuses on caring for prey animals rather than riding horses and is described as a transformative extracurricular program that connects students who are struggling with prey animals who need care. Therapeutic animal caretaking programs at The Children's Ranch are described as taking place in a safe and nurturing environment where students can flourish emotionally, socially, and intellectually.

The Children's Ranch offers programs for kids, teens, and young adults of all abilities, including those with learning, social/emotional, and developmental challenges. The mission of The Children's Ranch is to empower children, teenagers, and young adults with diverse abilities and challenges to become expert caretakers of animals while fostering emotional growth and resilience. The program emphasizes building emotional awareness and a common language about emotions for students and their families, and it is described as a refuge for students and a place that holds families close during difficult times.
The Children's Ranch program was designed by a team with expertise in therapeutic horsemanship, occupational therapy, behavioral therapy, and special education. Community instructors deliver lessons and provide individualized attention and support, with a focus on developing life skills such as organization, flexibility, emotional intelligence, awareness of behaviors and their effect on others, empathy, and a sense of belonging to a group. The Children's Ranch does not ride horses and instead focuses on animal caretaking.
