• Ages: 4–11 years old
• Schedule: Christ-centered child care before and after school from 6:30 am to 6:00 pm for children in grades TK–5, with care also available on school in-service days; Christ-centered summer program for children entering grades 1–6, Monday through Friday from 6:30 am to 6:00 pm
The School Age Day Care Program is held on the grounds of Holy Cross Lutheran Church and uses the Good News Building and Celebration Center classrooms for indoor activities and the playground area for outdoor play, with the play area sealed off by gates while children are in care. The program uses safe, reliable transportation in 15-passenger or 17-passenger youth buses that are licensed and inspected by the California Highway Patrol, and during the pandemic the youth buses run at half capacity. Transportation is provided to Summer School for Union School District students, and the vehicles are equipped with seatbelts, with drivers required to sign in and inspect the vehicles each day before transporting children.
Drivers have Class B driver’s licenses and youth bus certificates, undergo a physical every two years, submit to a written examination and behind-the-wheel driving test, and possess CPR and first aid certification. The mission of Holy Cross Lutheran Children’s Center states that the program is designed to help each child develop a healthy self-concept, encourages children to recognize and appreciate the talents God has given them while accepting and adapting to their personal limitations, and that children experience God’s love in action through teachers and staff who reinforce the concept of Jesus Christ as Lord, Savior and Friend. The Children’s Center has received the Best of Los Gatos Award 11 years in a row, admits students of any race, color, and national or ethnic origin, and operates under Facility # 430710153. During the pandemic, snacks are not provided, children bring their own lunches on full days, and the Summer Day Camp includes numerous and diverse activities to intellectually, creatively and physically stimulate children while providing an atmosphere of relaxing summer fun.
