Malibu Soccer Academy was started by Pepperdine Women’s Soccer Head Coach Tim Ward, a five-time WCC “Coach of the Year,” and his wife Shelby almost three decades ago. Malibu Soccer Academy has been a 26-year tradition that has reached a number of young athletes throughout Los Angeles and Ventura County. The academy states that soccer is more than a sport and describes its environment as one where every player feels supported, challenged, and truly seen, with a focus on teamwork, resilience, humility, integrity, perseverance, and respect. Its mission statement says it commits to nurturing technical excellence, personal growth, and lifelong confidence in every athlete, teaching integrity, respect, accountability, and teamwork, and focusing daily on strong character virtues that transcend sport and help campers become wonderful teammates.
The program describes its College ID Camps as providing a true window into the collegiate soccer experience, its Goalkeeper ID Camps as built for serious, driven athletes who want to experience what it takes to compete at the college level, and its Junior Elite Camps as built for advanced youth players who are hungry for growth in both skill and character. Malibu Soccer Academy notes that players train with some of the best coaches and collegiate players around and that it has been described as one of the “coolest” and best soccer camps in the country. One parent of a Malibu Soccer Academy ID Camp participant said the College ID Camp gave their daughter a true college-level experience that was challenging, fast-paced, and filled with feedback from coaches. A parent from the Girls Junior Elite Camp said they came from Las Vegas and that their daughter found the camp a great challenge and looked forward to next year. A parent of a Day Camp participant said their son attended for a week, had a great time, loved every minute, and wanted to return, and described the coaches as terrific and the camp as a 10. Another parent of an overnight camper said it was their child’s third time as an overnight camper, that she had nothing but positive things to say, and that they considered it a well-run camp and looked forward to attending again.
