Malibu Soccer Academy has been a 26-year tradition that has reached a number of young athletes throughout Los Angeles and Ventura County. Malibu Soccer Academy was started by Pepperdine Women's Soccer Head Coach and 5-time WCC “Coach of the Year,” Tim Ward, and his wife Shelby almost three decades ago. The program is directed by the Pepperdine Women’s Soccer coaching staff and supported by top club and college coaches, and is led by longtime Pepperdine coaches, top college coaches from across the country, and college goalkeeper coaches and high-level players.
The academy states that it commits to nurturing technical excellence, personal growth, and lifelong confidence in every athlete, and that it teaches integrity, respect, accountability, and teamwork as values that transcend soccer and shape strong young leaders. It states that through elite coaching and intentional training, it challenges players to give their best and continuously improve, and that it fosters a positive, supportive, and joyful environment where players feel connected, motivated, and proud to be part of the Malibu Soccer Academy community.
The program describes itself with phrases such as “Where Amazing Happens Everyday!” and “Where Soccer Shapes Life.” It notes that players sharpen their skills on a world-class field in an environment where every player feels supported, challenged, and truly seen. It states that College ID Camps provide a true window into the collegiate soccer experience, that Goalkeeper ID camps are built for serious, driven athletes who want to experience what it takes to compete at the college level, and that Junior Elite Camps are built for advanced youth players who are hungry for growth not just in skill, but in character. It also states that it focuses daily on strong character virtues that transcend sport and help campers become wonderful teammates, that it enjoys cooler summer temperatures because it is right by the ocean, that it is one of the “coolest” and best soccer camps in the country, and that it aims to create an inspiring soccer family.
Parent testimonials describe the College ID Camp as “challenging, fast-paced, and filled with great feedback from coaches.” Another parent from the Girls Junior Elite Camp said the weather, staff, and university were “amazing,” and that their daughter called the camp “a great challenge” and looked forward to next year. A parent of a Day Camp participant said their son “had a GREAT time,” “loved every minute,” wanted to return the next summer, and rated the camp a 10. Another parent shared that it was their child Jessica’s third time as an overnight camper, that she had “nothing but positive to say,” and that they viewed it as a well-run camp and looked forward to attending again.
