Under the Oaks Early Childhood Center

Under the Oaks Early Childhood Center offers a nature-based, Waldorf-inspired preschool with music, arts and crafts, circle time activities, and free creative play. Children also spend time outdoors running, climbing, building, exploring, and creating, and circle time includes song, dance movement, and language games.

• General schedule: The preschool has a strong rhythm. There is a consistent flow of the day, the week and the seasons. On a daily basis children have time for music, arts and crafts, circle time activities and free creative play. Outside time includes run, climb, build, explore and create. Inside time includes artistic fine motor projects or listening to a story. Circle time includes song, dance movement and language games.

About the provider

The program describes itself as a preschool, a Parent and Toddler Center, and an elementary age after school gathering place. It also says it is a community gathering place where social interactions are fostered, nature is explored, and friends are made. Program activities mentioned include storytelling, festivals, parenting events, hiking, toy making, arts and crafts, and an animal program where families interact with friendly therapy animals.

Learning takes place through imitation and example rather than through instruction. The curriculum is inspired by Waldorf education. Preschool has a focus on social skills building, curiosity, self expression, self regulation skills, fine motor, gross motor, sequencing, growing an ability to focus, and language skills. The school says it is not for parents interested in having their child learn their ABCs in preschool.
