Under the Oaks Early Childhood Center offers activities such as storytelling, arts and crafts, painting, toy making, cooking and baking bread, watercolor-painting, puppet-watching storytime, song and game activities, and seasonal craft activities. Children and families take part in hiking, gardening, sensory water play, free creative play, caring for the garden, cleaning up after free play, playing with farm and pet animals, and an animal program where families interact with friendly therapy animals. The program also includes music, singing, dancing, yoga, dance and rhythm, game circles, circle time for song, dance movement and language games, and both inside time for artistic fine motor projects and outside time to run, climb, build, explore, and create.

Under the Oaks Early Childhood Center provides preschool half and full day programs, elementary school afternoon programs, Parent and Child Classes, preschool programs, after school programs, and Summer Camp. Parent and Child Classes introduce families to the school’s teachers, curriculum, classrooms, grounds, playgrounds, edible garden, and hiking trails, and everything in these classes is made from natural materials such as wood, wool, cotton, and silk. The preschool and early childhood curriculum are inspired by Waldorf education combined with a background in child development, and preschool learning takes place through imitation and example rather than through instruction, with a consistent and predictable rhythm of activities that follow the flow of the day, the week, and the seasons.
The center is described as a gathering place for families, with rooms created to feel like a homelike environment and toys made of natural organic materials, and classrooms that are filled with the smells of baking and cooking with basil, mint, lavender, and roses from the garden. The program includes a play space for young children in nature, expansive outdoor playgrounds, an edible garden, hiking trails, and a hiking trail along a running creek, along with large air conditioned indoor classrooms. Work such as caring for the garden, baking bread, and cleaning up after free play is an important part of each day, and the program includes an animal program with friendly therapy animals to learn the language of the heart and the senses.

Summer Camp is located on campus in Las Flores Canyon and includes seven themed weeks between June and August 2026, with activities such as hiking, gardening, sensory water play, making arts and crafts from nature, playing with farm and pet animals, creating a “scrub jay cafe,” a building project to build Guinea Pig and Bunny Land, making boats, making treasure maps, folklore storytelling, creating a journey stick, baking and cooking foods ranging from garden to table, and a field trip to tide pools on Latigo Shore.
The program describes a strong rhythm with activities that teach fine motor, gross motor, sequencing, ability to focus, language skills, social skills, and self regulation skills, with a focus that begins with social skills and branches out to curiosity and creation. Its mission states that it is about the soil of the child, building a sense of self and self esteem, and building the foundations of a sense of self and a place in the world, with an emphasis on inspiring appreciation for all people, home, and places and cultures around the world, and a focus on social skills building. The community involvement includes visiting farms, visiting local artists, and visiting community landmarks, with the goal of creating a community that will deepen the connection of the world and the children and creating lasting relationships.
