About
Monterey Bay Taekwondo Academy offers Taekwondo training that includes self-defense, sparring (Gyeorugi), exercise, and meditation. The program describes Taekwondo as combining combat techniques, self-defense, sport and exercise, and as a form of meditation and a philosophy of living.
• Ages: 5–18 years old
• Schedule: Class options Monday–Friday in the afternoon and evening, and Saturday morning
Monterey Bay Taekwondo Academy states that its mission is to teach Taekwondo with high standards and to instill in its students traditional values, respect, discipline, confidence, and compassion for all living things. The mission also states that students will learn to set their own goals in life, overcome obstacles and struggles with dignity and honor, and gain confidence and self-respect. The academy is led by Master Jae Seong Lee, a 7th Degree Taekwondo Black Belt, with office contact support from Mr. Nowak. Monterey Bay Taekwondo Academy is a member of the World Taekwondo Federation and trains students according to the Kukkiwon World Taekwondo Headquarters’ standards. The academy notes that, with hard work and dedication, it is possible for its students to make it to the United States Olympic Taekwondo Team.
For approximately one year, Monterey Bay Taekwondo Academy has been a vendor for Ocean Grove Charter School and, as of April 2018, is a vendor for Inspire Charter Schools. The program also offers MontereyBayTKD Summer Camp 2026 (Session 1 and Session 2), MontereyBayTKD Modern Fitness and Gym 2024, and held a MontereyBayTKD Black Belt Ceremony in 2023. One testimonial from Sharon Crall describes observing classes during yearly visits and notes that her grandchildren have taken their black belt test and passed. Another testimonial from Hollie Brown of the Capitola Mall office describes inviting Monterey Bay Taekwondo Academy representatives and a student, Terry Tran, to perform, sign autographs, and share information about Taekwondo at a Back IN School event.
