Founded in 1966, Marin Theatre operates Marin Theatre Education Programs as part of its broader work. Its stated mission is to be a dynamic hub that creates theater and unique artistic experiences to entertain and educate the people of Marin, the Bay Area, and beyond. Marin Theatre states that it is a home for brave and thoughtfully curated professional theater, art and events in the San Francisco Bay Area and acknowledges that its theatre and administrative offices are located on the ancestral, occupied, and unceded land of the Coast Miwok peoples. For more than 50 years, a community of donors has supported Marin Theatre, and each year 60% of its budget is dependent on charitable contributions. Marin Theatre reports that it serves nearly 3,000 students each year through its education programs, including scholarships for students who would otherwise be unable to participate.
