Students also take part in warm-up exercises, Tai Chi routines, health qigong, Qigong guidance, standing meditation (Zhan Zhuang), health-preserving breathing, push hands, various levels of grasp and pusher training, Qinna (joint locking), free-style fighting/Sanda, and bone-separating techniques, as well as exposure to Daoist philosophy.
• Ages: 5–18 years old
The program is led by Master Wayne Peng (Master Peng), who is described as the 12th generation successor of Zhaobao/Zhao Bao Tai Chi and has 30 years of practice and numerous publications. The tenets of Zhao Bao Tai Chi emphasize simplicity and describe movement as “hard as iron, soft as cotton, slippery as a fish, and tenacious as glue,” with stances and movements that harmonize and flow with the anatomy of the human body and draw aesthetic inspiration from nature. Zhao Bao Tai Chi is described as an older cousin of Chen style, subtle, spherical, and devastating when properly understood, and its theory is stated to derive from texts such as the I Ching (The Book of Change), Zhongyong (The Doctrine of the Mean), and Neo-Confucian thought, uniting Confucianism, Buddhism, and Daoism under a new umbrella of thought. Instruction at the studio includes both health improvement and clear fighting technique, and children’s classes specifically teach Chinese martial arts and Shaolin Kung Fu.
Free trial sessions are offered. The organization maintains a YouTube channel, Facebook page, and TikTok presence. A Zhao Bao Tai Chi hardcover book (new edition in English and Chinese) is available on Amazon, and an English 100-page e-book titled “A Practical Handbook for Mastering Oneself Through Zhao Bao Tai Chi” is available as a free download for a limited time. Testimonials from adult students describe experiences training with Master Peng, including comments from individuals identified as Kevin (CEO of IGG), Jian (Apple engineer), Tim (from the Air Force), and Jibing (CEO of a biotech company).
