Classic Camps are traditional group settings where campers are arranged into smaller groups for the week and spend their time eating, playing, and studying God's word together, with overall camp numbers kept small for a small camp feel.
• Ages: 7–18 years old
Sequoia Brigade Camp describes itself as a small camping organization by design, with overall camp numbers small and a high counselor to camper ratio so no one gets lost in the crowd. Its philosophy of ministry is built around discipleship, with camps and trips that challenge the minds, bodies, and souls of boys and young men. The program states that adventure and fun are the context and that God's word and mature, hand-chosen and trained counselors are the tools used, with the camp experience described as being about Jesus and the goal stated as helping raise up disciples. The camp offers highly structured, discipleship-oriented boys camps and girls camps, and adventure camps and trips that take campers to unique and beautiful parts of California and the world, led by experienced guides and limited in the number of campers that can register. Father/child camps are described as designed to provide a lot of opportunities to build memories together, with a lot of flexibility so the dad and child can direct their time, and dads are welcomed and encouraged to come along with their children on many camps and trips.
The leadership team includes Camp Director Karl Benson and Interim Registrar Kevin DeBoer. For the past 45 years, Bob Nass has served as Director of Sequoia Brigade Camp.
One parent from a Father/Daughter Camp reported that it was an edifying experience to enjoy relationship-building time with his daughter and other fathers in the serene and scenic setting of Hartstone Camp, and thanked the camp for its devotion to the Triune God, care and love for families, and leadership. Another family shared that their son had great things to say about Surf Camp in southern California, including what he learned about surfing and from the Bible studies, and they expressed appreciation for having a Christian camping experience for him.
